Aikido is the highest form of Budo (Martial Way/Self Preservation/Self Defense). The concept of “one time” or “one chance” is the basic mindset of training. With no contests or matches of skill, size or strength, no winner or loser, this concept can only be practiced and developed with clear understanding of Aikido philosophy as well as physical skill. With the proper mindset and training, we can be prepared mentally and physically for various situations from dojo practice to real life encounters. With the basic concept in mind, we must promote proper mental attitude, repetition, hard work and clear instruction. Students and Instructors of Aikido will naturally develop all benefits associated with Osensei’s Budo e.g. discipline, confidence, humility, harmony, compassion, self-improvement and can transition this teaching on a physical level into their individual training and on a spiritual level into their daily lives.
